…And we are merely players,
…performers and portrayers, each another’s audience upon the gilded stage. (credit to Neil Peart for the poetry) Well, actually the folks over at Barrington Stage Company are the performers and portrayers, we are simply the appreciative audience. They’ve been putting on world class, thought-provoking live shows in the Berkshires since 1995. Barrington Stage has also been a reliable proving ground for composers and writers to introduce and develop new musicals and plays. The community of greater Pittsfield supports the Company with ever-increasing attendance in their quaint little theater, and the BSC returns the favor with diverse and inclusive community outreach and education. As a member of that diverse community of support, Himalayan High wants to be a part of your night at the theater.
Artistic Legacy
With two separate stages and a separate cabaret to choose from, spread across two unique buildings in downtown Pittsfield, they have come a long way since their humble beginnings renting out space at Mount Everett High School. Their Playworks and Musical Theater Lab have been the launching pad for over 41 new plays and musicals since their inception and have had several productions advance to feature on Broadway and other regional theater companies. These professionals don’t just produce new stage art. They create outstanding, critically acclaimed stage art that earns them awards year in and year out. BSC has won the Best of the Berkshires Readers’ Choice for Best Live Theatre for the past five years, and in 2020 won the BroadwayWorld Berkshires Best Theatre Company of the Decade Award. Not too shabby for a community oriented local theater group.
Upcoming Performances
The first two weeks of June will feature a pair of politically charged stage plays that will have overlapping runs. “Eisenhower: This Piece of Ground” stars Tony Award® winner John Rubinstein in a one-man tour de force about the five-star President who put people over party. At the same time, referencing more recent history, is N/A. N/A takes you inside a battle of ideals behind closed doors between N, the first woman Speaker of the House, and A, the youngest woman ever elected to Congress. Inspired by real-life political leaders and events, this witty and whip-smart two- hander lets you see the sparks fly when a trailblazer and a firebrand collide. This electric performance begins on June 4 and runs Wednesday through Sunday until the 22nd, when it will move aside for the Lerner and Loewe’s classic, Camelot, which will begin a 4 week schedule. Check out their website for more performances, classes, and other community activities. https://barringtonstageco.org
Pre-show preparations
Himalayan High wants to be a part of your night on the town. We have a variety of cannabis products that can add to the entertainment value of your evening. Whether your intention is to concentrate on the tense dialogue of an edge-of-your-seat stage drama, or to laugh and giggle with a clever ensemble comedy, or enjoy the music and stage sets of a classic American musical, we can elevate your visit. Our first recommendation would be a pack of Raspberry Rose Love gummies from Kanha. Delicately flavored and with a triple threat cannabinoid combination of THC, THCV, and CBG, you will be focused on the performance, awake and alert to all the details of the artists, and in a uplifted mood thanks to the CBG. They are discreet, stealthy, private, and pretty fast acting. Chew one during your walk from the parking lot to the venue and by the time the curtain goes up, you’re in the groove. By the time the show is over in a couple hours, you’re pretty much back to normal. Whatever your normal is.
