Exploring the Beauty of the Berkshires

As much as we’d like to think people from all over the East Coast come to western Massachusetts specifically to shop with us at Himalayan High, we are pretty sure that isn’t the case.  Or at least not most of the time.  The Berkshires have been an idyllic green and blue getaway for New Englanders, New Yorkers, and New Jersey folks for generations.  Since the 19th century and even earlier, vacationers have been coming to the forested valleys and hills of this area for relaxation, hiking, fishing, boating, and pretty much everything else you can’t do in a populated city. If you live up here, you already know why. Clean water, fresh air, and abundant wildlife during the day gives way to starry skies and the sounds of natural nightlife everywhere once the sun goes down. If you read on, we’d love to share our thoughts on how we can pair some of our premier Himalayan High Cannabis with your outdoor itinerary.

For those of you who are healthy enough to take a few thousand steps a day, there are hundreds of miles of trails, countless acres of forests, and dozens of designated wilderness areas, state parks, and conservation lands for you to explore. These are simple yet healthy activities for you dog lovers to get the four-legged family favorites out of the house and burning some energy. Some of the region’s historical and cultural centers like the Clark Art Institute and the Bidwell House Museum have well-manicured and extensive grounds around the main buildings, and miles of trails to for you to wander around the property. Have a fast-acting Cherry Limeade rosin belt from Kanha before getting your steps in, or puff on a Raven’s Revenge preroll from SpeakEasy as you’re putting boots to trail. If you’d rather be completely away from people, the Lacob’s Ladder section of the Appalachian Trail cuts through Becket, and October Mountain State Forest borders the western edge of the town.

If you’re like me and can only do the long-distance walking thing a couple times a week, maybe some fishing or boating is more you style. While Minnesota is the “Land of 1000 Lakes”, the aquatic possibilities here in the East are plentiful and numerous as well.  Greenwater Pond and Buckeley Dunton Lake are two hotspots for local fishing, as are most of the contributing rivers and streams. Rainbow trout, large and small mouth bass, and pumpkinseed fish are practically jumping out of the Farmington River right now. Grab a 4-pack of ice cold, delicious and fast acting Levia ScorpionBowl or Achieve seltzers to keep chilled in the water next to you. If you think you can keep your fingers dry enough, maybe pick up a Fresh Connection Flight Pack so you have a little variety in your smoke throughout the day. A pre-rolled Sativa joint to start the morning when it’s early and cool, and an indica or hybrid in the afternoon when your body is starting to complain about the long hours. I will NOT be making any recommendation for what cannabis to consume before going hunting. They might not be good dance partners. But… AFTER the thrill of the chase and the excitement of the kill, you could probably use a calming Grapeness or Banana Candy infused pre-roll from Pioneer Valley to say goodnight to your adventurous day.

At the end of all these explorations and excursions, you’re going to need a place to sleep and recover. If you don’t already have a short-term rental picked out, there are a bunch of campgrounds in the area that would love to welcome you and your crew. Bonnie Rigg Camping Club, Klondike Camping Resort, Mount Greylock, Camp Overflow, Tolland State Forest, and October Mountain are just a handful of the RV and tent-friendly campgrounds within a half-hour or so of our front door. There’s something almost magical about cooking meats over the fire, family and friends in a circle of camp chairs telling stories and sharing laughter from the day’s hijinks, and passing around a freshly rolled cannon of Perpetual’s Gold Dust #4.  Another great option is use a bottle of Squier’s Go-Time elixir to enhance everybody’s favorite after-hours beverages. Play hard, consume responsibly, and sleep like a rock. Sounds like a full vacation.  Start with us at Himalayan High and let our bud tenders tailor your purchase to your agenda.  When all the fish are caught, the legs are sore, and the bike needs repairs, come see us again on the way back to reality and civilization.
