Hot Music on Summer Nights

A Long Time Ago…

If you’re an adult of a certain age, the opening symphonic notes of any Star Wars movie make the hair on the back of your neck stand up and your heart race. That first booming chord lets you know you’re in for a fun, fantastic ride through new worlds, creative characters, and intergalactic adventures. The original Star Wars came out when I was four years old, and it changed my life. Eighteen years later, I first tried cannabis, and that changed my life as well. Now, as an adult, I can combine the positive memories of my favorite movie franchise while enjoying my favorite means of altering my consciousness. A match made in heaven—or in the deep, dark cold of outer space.

I’ve Got a Good Feeling About This

“There’s something magical about how it heightens my sensory awareness,” I learned about cannabis. “The nuances in the music become more vivid, the emotional experience deeper, like I’m feeling the composer’s intentions with new clarity. Especially with familiar movie scores, I can close my eyes and see the film scenes in my inner eye as the music washes over me. Even without visuals, the ominous Imperial March makes it feel like Darth Vader is coming around the corner to get me.

When I listen to those timeless pieces in a beautiful and acoustically exceptional environment, live, with a little nudge from my cannabis counterpart, it’s a whole new world of sound and feeling. The increased focus, and Force-like ability to hear each instrument in its own glory, is a singular feeling. To have the opportunity to have that elevated musical experience while watching such an iconic movie in this kind of setting is a bucket list type of evening.”

Two Sides of the Force

With live music—as with cannabis consumption—there are different ways we can experience and enjoy the same event. Some concerts tickle our artistic funny bone, begging us to pay close attention to every note, every rhythm change, every moment of scripted silence, lest we miss something significant. Other shows are all about the feeling of the music—the vibe in the crowd and the experience of being present among the musicians and fans as one living, breathing organism.

Weed is similar. Sometimes we want a nice indica to calm the soul, still the mind, and relax the body so we can absorb the stimuli around us with few distractions. Other times, we want the chaos, the energy, and the push to move with the music and feel in total harmony with the moment. This is when a tasty sativa takes the spotlight. Just like music, cannabis offers us balance between peace and momentum, between soft and loud, between order and freedom—whichever our emotional state calls for.

Rock and Roll Fantasy

If orchestral music is your indica—soothing and introspective—then classic rock is likely your sativa: high energy, bold, and rebellious. While Star Wars and its scores lit up my childhood, rock music and southern riffs defined my teen years. Once I started creating my own soundtrack to life, I found myself lost in classic rock, southern anthems, and heavy metal.

No band captures that electric energy better than Rock & Roll Hall of Famers, Lynyrd Skynyrd. With a catalog that’s powered tailgate parties, road trips, and jam sessions for over 50 years, their music is iconic. “Tuesday’s Gone” drifting out of the speakers on a summer night. “Freebird” stealing votes for greatest guitar solo ever—especially when the THC hits just right. The rhythm becomes a heartbeat, the harmonies a choir, and the whole experience takes flight.

Are You Experienced?

If any of this sparked memories of cruising around in your Chrysler LeBaron with a Skynyrd tape, or sitting in the dark, waiting for that Star Wars scroll to light up the screen, then we’ve got something for you.
