Namaste Aruna

At the very heart of it, the cannabis industry is built on millennia-old agricultural practices, as well as a holistic appreciation of plants, the outdoors, and our very personal and reciprocal relationship with the Earth. Nature has provided us with a very useful and practical plant. One which can provide physiological benefits and enhance our lives in a variety of ways, either straight from the garden, or after being processed into more easily consumed forms. Our local friends at Aruna right down the road are very serious about their commitment to sustainability and environmentally friendly practices whenever possible. As Earth Day approaches, we’d like to highlight their efforts towards conserving energy and reducing waste through their intentionally responsible growing and packaging strategies.

To begin with, Aruna grows their cannabis flower differently than most of the other cultivators in the region. They employ a unique cultivation technique that merges the benefits of indoor and outdoor growing. Their facility features UV-permissive acrylic ceilings and geothermal heat pumps, allowing them to harness natural sunlight while maintaining precise environmental control. This approach reduces energy consumption and carbon footprint, positioning Aruna as a leader in sustainable cannabis production. Lots of traditional cannabis lovers enjoy the sun-kissed, naturally developed flavors that come with outdoor growing, but that’s not really practical here in New England. They figured out how to get the best of both worlds. They use natural sunlight when it’s available, supplemental lighting when it’s necessary.

Because we appreciate and echo Aruna’s accountability when it comes to environmental responsibility, we have partnered with them on our newest sustainable initiative. Get this… According to available data, in 2024, Massachusetts cannabis consumers purchased over 32 million pre-roll units. That’s a mountain of plastic tubes. In 2019, an environmental company estimated that roughly 13 million pounds of cannabis packaging ended up in national landfills during the previous 11 months. That was 5 years ago and legal consumption has increased steadily since that study was done. For an industry that is essentially based on agriculture, that’s a lot of non-organic material being left to pollute our beloved environment. We have a better option.

Himalayan High, in cooperation with Aruna, are opening the first deli-style cannabis pre-roll bar in Massachusetts. Just in time for 4/20 and Earth Day!! For you this means a greater selection, more flexibility in how you purchase, better prices, and LESS PACKAGING to dispose of once you’re done enjoying your smoke. Aruna will be providing us with a variety of premier quality pre-rolls in bulk, without unnecessary packaging, then WE will bundle those for you, creating your own customized flight packs. Instead of a individual plastic tube for each of those pre-rolls, and handfuls of waste every day, we can carefully put a whole bunch of loose joints into a single re-usable package and send you home with a goody bag that will be the toast of the neighborhood. Choose in bundles of five from top tier sativa, indica, and hybrid strains. Responsibly grown by Aruna, responsibly sold by us, and hopefully, responsibly enjoyed by you.
